The project’s database is the central research hub of HERLAND, bringing together archival sources, fieldwork observations, and digital documentation into one organised, searchable resource. Built from materials gathered across Sweden, Denmark, and northern Germany, the database catalogues images, names, dates, locations, environments, landscapes, and animals connected to early modern women’s activities.

 

This evolving repository supports HERLAND’s analysis of women’s engagement with nature and provides the foundation for the project’s digital tools, including the GIS map and 3D/drone visualisations. Over time, the database will, hopefully, grow into a rich resource for researchers, students, and heritage partners interested in women’s environmental histories and the natural worlds they shaped between 1500 and 1800.
