The project’s archival research draws on a wide range of historical materials—including commonplace books, letters, forestry records, legal cases, hunting registers, newspapers, farming accounts, staff lists, and objects (to name a few)—to piece together how women used landscapes, managed resources, and encountered animals between 1500 and 1800.

 

The archival discoveries will not only form the foundation of HERLAND’s database and GIS map, but will also be stored and made available (where possible) to researchers and the wider public.
